From George Washington's Diary: A New Chart of the United States by Ray White Around September 15th I asked my wonderfully intuitive wife Cat, "when is a country born." Her insight was that it should be the time when the English surrendered, because this is the time when our country was truly separated from it's mother (Great Britain). Before that point only France recognized the USA as an independent country. After the surrender it would be hard for the rest of the world not to recognize us as being independent. Other events before this, like the signing of the declaration of independence, are more analogous to the fetus kicking in the womb. There was no guarantee at the signing of the Declaration of Independence that the USA would not be 'still born' so to speak. If England wasn't busy at the time fighting France then our independence might have been a long time in the coming. At the least the surrender at Yorktown can be looked at as a chart for the military action of this country, because this was the date when our country became militarily independent. The surrender is given in all the sources I could find as being on October 17th, but research shows that the wrong date was given. Thanks to Cindy Sullivan who works with me at Astrolabe, we found George Washington's diary online at this URL. http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/treasures/trt022.html According to this diary, the 17th is only when peace negotiations began. As it says under the entry for the 17th: "About ten O'clock the enemy lead a parley and Lord Cornwalis proposed a cessation of hostilities." At that point talks began and it took a couple of days to hammer out and draw up the formal surrender agreement. The actual surrender was signed: October 19th 1781 11:00 am LMT Yorktown, VA 37N15 76w30 Under the entry for the 19th Washington gives the actual time for the surrender. "In the morning early I had them copied and sent word to Lord Cornwallis that I expected to have them signed at 11 O'clock - and that the division (?) would march out at two O'clock - both of which were accordingly done." This was the time of the signing when the surrender was official, and it was then that our country was born. Here is the USA chart for that event:  The data gives the USA a 10th house Libra sun chart. That fits our intellectual and businesslike attitude, governed by a somewhat changeable public opinion. The Moon is sitting right on top of Jupiter at 29 Scorpio. This might show why for the most part our country has been pretty lucky and well respected. The ascendant for this chart is 24 Sag very outspoken and idealistic. The heavy 12th house influence is interesting. Lots of stuff going on behind the scenes I suppose. It might also indicate our concern for the problems of the world. With this chart there are plenty of troublesome transits at the time of the 9/11 WTC bombing. 
The transiting Neptune is right at the midpoint of the USA's natal Mars/Pluto conjunction. We didn't see what was coming in our own supposedly safe corner of the world. Also, the transiting node is sitting on the USA's Uranus, and the transiting Moon is also about to conjunct Uranus. The transiting mars is about to oppose the USA's Uranus. There was a lot of Mars / Pluto / Uranus going on. Also Chiron is about to hit the USA's ascendant, there is also a lot of Chiron going when you look at the progressed and directed charts. Also very interesting, the ascendant for the bombing, 14 degrees of Libra, just happens to be the USA's Midheaven in this chart. That of course is also where the transiting mercury is sitting. This would seem to indicate that this event will be talked about by everyone for ages to come. A survey of other dates in US history shows many strong synastry connections to this new Yorktown chart.  More recently, at the beginning of the US attack on October 7th 2001 at 12:28pm EDT we see once again that USA Midheaven is being hit, this time by a big jolt of energy. On that afternoon the Sun crossed the USA Midheaven and Jupiter squared it. Obviously this Sun Jupiter is the power to strike back with fiery retribution. The USA's Saturn was also rising over Washington when this happened. Obviously this Midheaven point at 14 ½ degrees Libra is a major sensitive point. There is yet more evidence to point to this. For instance, the beginning of the ground war in Afghanistan began late at night on the 19th of October. This is the day of the USA's solar return, but it is also a few hours before mercury once again hit the Midheaven (the same place Mercury was at when the 9/11 attack occurred) only this time Mercury was going retrograde. I expected another important event to occur about October 27th when Mercury hit this 14 ½ degree Libra point for the last time. And indeed this was the date when Abdul Haq the leading US sympathizer among the Taliban's tribe was assassinated. Although a number of charts from US history are impressive, my personal favorite is the chart for the Attack on Pearl Harbor.  In this chart there is once again a strong connection to the USA's Midheaven / IC axis. At the moment when the Japanese signaled the attack the Midheaven of the chart over Pear Harbor coincided with the Midheaven of the US Chart. Also Mars was transiting the IC in Aries, a perfect symbol of the sudden attack on our Home Turf. There are other indications in this chart, such as a recent Pluto opposition, an applying Sun/ Saturn conjunction, and a Jupiter / Saturn opposition. In addition the USA's Uranus was also setting over Pearl Harbor at the time. Here are a few of the other synastry examples from history:
Comparison of the Yorktown Chart to the Sibly 1776 Chart 
The most popular chart for the USA is usually sited as being the Sibly Chart for July 4 1776 at 5:10PM. So a comparison of these charts is in order. The most interesting thing about the comparison of these two charts is that they have many sensitive points in common. For instance, the Midheaven in the Yorktown Chart 14Li39 corresponds very closely with the Saturn of the Sibly Chart 14Li48. Since Saturn stands for governments and the USA is a government it's Midheaven has a similar flavor, this means that transits to 14 Libra are not too useful to use as a justification between one chart and the other. This synchronicity makes it harder to prove using transits alone which chart is most accurate at prediction. The points in the Yorktown USA chart that bear little similarity or resonance to the Sibly chart are the Pluto at 4 Aquarius, and the Moon/Jupiter conjunction at 29 Scorpio. Both of these points are loosely aspected by the Sibly Midheaven at 1 Libra, but only soft aspects. The Moon/Jupiter of the Yorktown chart is also loosely sextiled by the Sibley Pluto at 27 Capricorn. These points should be usable in demonstrating the virtues of the new Yorktown chart over the Sibly Chart. Also an examination of house positions would be useful. Some of the contacts to those points have been mentioned already. Another good test would be in Progressions and directions. Progressions and Directions Progressions and directions are a good thing to look at in the analysis of a prospective new chart. Every chart has unique progressed and directed charts for a moment in time. On September 11th there are indeed some progressed and directed aspects that indicate possible trouble.  The progressed Ascendant is in the natal 8th house, applying to a square with the natal Moon/Jupiter conjunction. The orb is only 6 minutes on this aspect. Also the Progressed Sun is trining the natal Neptune, and the progressed South Node is on the natal Midheaven. There is also an applying progressed Mars square progressed Neptune aspect which is less than a degree away. Another interesting thing to note is that progressed Pluto is applying to a conjunction with natal mars and the orb is only 14 minutes. Although this is a long term progression.The directed Yorktown USA chart is even more interesting for 9/11.  The directed Ascendant at 24 Leo 04 is exactly opposite the natal Pluto to the minute. This is a good indicator for war. Also the directed Saturn is applying to a square with the natal Sun / Node opposition with an orb of about 40 minutes. The directed Sun is applying to a trine with Neptune with a 5 minute orb. Conclusion I see a few very sensitive points in all of this. The first is the US Midheaven at 14 Libra. Another sensitive point is the US Sun/Node axis at 25-26 of Libra/Aries. Almost anything transiting these points seems to have an effect. Also transits to the US Uranus at 2 cancer, and the Us Moon/Jupiter at 29 Scorpio seem to be strong as well. That Mars/Pluto midpoint also bears watching. In this chart I think what we really need to look out for in the near future is the Transiting Pluto. The last Pluto / Saturn Opposition in May of 2002 happens at 16 Sagittarius conjunct the USA's Saturn. And it won't be too long before Pluto enters the first house of this chart.
